Is Relocating For You

Whether to relocate or not is one of those questions that really only you can answer. It's something that you might want to have worked out in your mind before even making that first visit or call to your Talisman recruitment specialist. In broad economics terms the points are as follows.

The wider and deeper a market the higher the returns will be to a specific skill set. So if you are fully qualified as a land director for a national house builder, well, you'll want to try and sell those skills on the national market. If you limit yourself to looking at jobs either where you already are or within commuting distance then the premium that you will be able to capture for your skills will be smaller.

If that all sounds a little too economic think of it this way. There might be 10 jobs in the country at any one time available for someone of your specific skill set and your Talisman recruiter will be able to fit you with one or more of them. However, what if none of them happen to be in the area of the country where you want to stay? You'll have to look at jobs a little further down the ladder, perhaps a land manager, in order to stay where you are: obviously, this will mean less money.

Now there's nothing wrong with making such decisions: we all make choices all the time, balancing this part and that part of our life to find the mix we like most. Uprooting the entire family to chase a small pay increase might not make sense while doing so for a one shot opportunity at a huge career break might well.

What all of this means is that before you go into the recruitment process, before you find out what might be on offer to someone of your skills, it's worth having the discussion and making a plan.
